Welcome to Realm of Requiem

New to LARP?

Realm of Requiem(RoR) is a persistent LARP with an ongoing story.

LARP, or Live Action Role-Playing is a more active type of role-playing. A person physically acts out their character's actions instead of describing them. As a player you take on a character's persona with ambitions and motivations of your own creation. There is no script to follow. You act and react to the world according to the character concept you created. Think of it as a story in which you star however the middle and end isn't written yet. You just stepped out of the prologue into chapter one.

We use a vitality based, called skill combat system. Utilizing safe foam covered boffers replicating all types of different medieval weapons. A player will attempt to strike their target with their boffer, a hit does one damage to the target. A called skill is a special attack that characters will have in limited amounts. When swinging their weapon they might shout out "Maim!", which if it connects with the target's limb, that limb will become useless until healed.

Also used is a packet based magic system. A player may decide to learn the ways of a mage slinging elemental spells about the battle field. Utilizing spell packets, similar to a small beanbag, a mage would call out a spell incant, "I invoke the element of Earth to root your feet in place one minute", and then throw their packet at their target. If it hits a player that person cannot move his feet for a minute. There are five schools of magic open to a beginning character and more hidden schools of magic that may be entered later.

Using the unique rules created for RoR you will create a character by, making a history, dressing in fantasy styled clothing, choosing skills and abilities which will allow you to cast spells, pick a lock, forge weapons, or strike a devastating blow in combat. You will then live out that character's adventure for the weekend. Fighting trolls and orcs, finding a treasure, exploring a cave, making a contact, learning a new fighting skill, explore a crypt, tell tall tales in the tavern, all things you may do throughout the weekend. Then between events you may spend the character points you earned to gain more skills or spells.

All this while the cast, people switching between different assigned roles instead of playing a single character, play out the encountered monsters, interesting characters, invading armies, and anything else we can come up with to keep the world "alive and changing."

How are we different from other LARPs?

RoR core staff cumulatively offers over a century of LARPing experience. We are dedicated to delivering a high quality role-playing experience from every encounter with our cast. There are no "wandering" monster attacks. Every group of monsters will have a reason and story to explain what and why they are doing what they are doing.

The world is dangerous. The trip to death's realm is terrifying and you will almost always leave with less than when you entered. Death will be serious business and will be treated as such. This means that each combat feels like a fight for survival.

Starting characters will feel like seasoned adventurers with enough skills and abilities to give the player a feeling of not being weak or insignificant.

The system allows for a player to work towards a character development goal without a known path. By spending character points in the questing system a character will be able to unlock an ability or skill typically unavailable. More character points will need to be spent however than if the player took the normal route of acquiring the ability.

Cheating will be taken seriously. Anyone caught cheating at a RoR event will be banned from play. Not for an event. Not for a year. Permanently. Any suspicion of cheating will be looked into seriously.
